BLAG Videos, Now on PeerTube
The new home for BLAG videos is PeerTube, part of the ‘Fediverse’ network of open social media.
For the last week I’ve been completely absorbed by the process of creating a BLAG channel on the video hosting/sharing service PeerTube. This is part of a wider collection of open and interconnected social media platforms, which means that the BLAG channel can be followed by accounts on other compatible services, eg Mastodon.
I am now using the PeerTube channel to embed all BLAG videos at bl.ag online. These include the recordings from previous BLAG Meet events, a number of BLAG Chats and Demos, and the When Better Letters Met series of short biopics.
There’s also the feature length Face in the Sky (1933), some recordings from Lockdown Letterheads, and Fernando Mello’s Touriga Casual presentation/demonstration to enjoy and learn from. These are then part of a wider collection of video content at bl.ag online, which includes films produced by others.
Over time I will be making more of these videos available directly on the channel, plus adding new content such as the recordings from BLAG Meet: Inside Issue 08.

The channel can be followed by searching for @sam@video.bl.ag on the free Peertube app (Apple, Google/Android, F-Droid) or any compatible ‘Fediverse’ service.
I’ll be writing more about the Fediverse in a future post, but if you’re curious then I highly recommend the typo.social community as a good place to start. I’m here at @blag@type.social and happy to answer any questions you have.
I have been delighted with the experience of (re)building the BLAG video library on PeerTube. The user experience is much better than what Vimeo has become and, versus YouTube, all of these videos are served up to viewers (ie you) without any advertising, algorithms, or tracking.
I believe that these features are of increasing importance and they have played a big role in my decision to go ‘all in’ on PeerTube and open social media at large. I hope that you’ll also consider joining in.
